day 59

This was my husband's choice for dessert tonight for his birthday.  I'm not complaining - yum!

Before I started this blog, I told myself that there were going to be days where I wouldn't know what to take pictures of and that they wouldn't all be 'beautiful'.  I told myself that, I needed to take pictures of  what I want to remember from today.  Now that I am at day 59 - I find I am setting expectations for myself rather high.  Sometimes, pictures don't turn out how you want them too, or there isn't enough time in the day to take one while the lighting is good.  And that's okay.  That's life.  I found myself at 8:00 taking picture of my melting ice cream and then my battery died.   I guess my photo subject was settled for me.  And, I'm okay with that because tonight, I'd rather be spending time with my husband.

day 58

Snow ball fight!  We don't usually get snow this time of the year here - but surprise, here it is!  I love watching my boy and his daddy play together.  My husband works so hard to provide for us during the week - it's good to see him play.  The boy loves, loves, loves playing with his daddy - so all is good.

Accidental ice sculpture.

day 57

Today we celebrated my husband's 33rd birthday with some of our family - although the big day isn't until Monday.  I love this shot - it is very candid - and he didn't mind that I posted it!  What a great man I married.

day 55

Trying something new today.  Starbursts.  I think I like the last one the best.  The other two take over the picture - but let me know what you think!  By the way, I panicked slightly when I was editing the first one - I thought all the little branches on the tree in the background were scratches on my lens!!  Phew!

day 54

Today was definately a tea type of day.  I can't believe how cold it is outside - and windy!  Hopes of spring are all but a distant memory.

In all honesty, this photo wasn't my first choice for my picture for today.  It was a brick.  I took a picture and started laughing to myself.  I'm taking a picture of a brick? A brick?  I must be losing it :)  (please don't be offended if you like bricks, because I do too - or if you have a brick photo in your stash - this story has a happy ending).  I really do like this particular brick, it has great character and great texture.  I found it while beach-combing on the Sunshine Coast.  This brick must have stories to tell.  Did it fall off a barge? Was it from an old house on a nearby island that fell victom to a fierce wave?  I like to imagine, that this brick has history.  Am I nuts?  Perhaps.  Am I a daydreamer?  Most definately.

day 53

Tonight I went to my first hockey game! I had so much fun.  The seats we had were great, even my poor eyes could see the puck!

day 52

Well, if you're Canadian, like me...you might know what today was. It is a day where Canadians from across this beautiful country start dreaming of new cars, televisions, barbeques and free coffees and donuts... yes, my friends 'Roll-up-the-Rim" is back.

In other news, we had another day off school today.  And it is snowing (school was not cancelled because it snowed, the snow hasn't amounted to much and is purely coincidental).

day 50

Today was a great day!  The sun was shining and my Mom and I had the whole day in front of us.  The main purpose of our little excursion was for my dear friend's bridal shower.  I couldn't be more happy for her.  We met in university and have managed to stay in touch for the last 15 years (we were child prodigies and went to university very young.)   We have had many laughs together...usually in a car.  Our comedy routines would rival the likes of Abbott and Costello.  "Do we turn left here?" "Right" "So, we turn left here!?" "Right" "No. Do. We. Turn. LEFT. Here" "Right...er correct" ...this unfortunately went on for awhile...but, we did get to where we were going, eventually.  Also, a word to the wise, opening the window before checking if car is over the line in parking space, is ALWAYS a good idea.  I won't let on to whose 'faux pas' was whose, though.

The second picture is of my Mom and I waiting patiently in the border line-up.  One hour, I don't think I've ever waited that long to come back home, but oh well - it was worth it.  I enjoyed spending the time with my Mom today.  It isn't that often that we get out just the two of us, so when we do - I truly treasure the time.  It was nice to talk...and well, shop of course!

day 49

Ack, I can't believe I'm doing this.  It really is nerve-wracking.  But here it is...a self portrait.  I had a few suprise hours to myself this afternoon...and apparently not enough work to keep me busy, ha!

Here is what I am happy with:  the colours and  the fact that I am not making a completely dorky face (which happens way too often).  What I am not happy with:  my bra-strap is showing (c'est la vie) and it is slightly grainy / blurry.   So, there it is...well, actually - there I am.

day 48

I took this shot mainly so that I could play around with editing with some new photoshop actions I found at The CoffeeShop Blog  .  Very fun.  Having said that, I had a little moment when I looked at this picture on the computer - when did my baby get so big.  He is growing up so fast.  I allow myself to have these moments, because they make you appreciate each day....even the ones that involve the 'naughty stool' (like today!).

day 47

Swimming lessons.  I love swimming lessons.  The boy loves it and for me, it is a chance to just sit and catch my breath.  I brought my camera in hopes that shooting in manual will improve the quality of my swimming pool shots, but alas - it didn't.  The ones of him in or by the water, are always dark and grainy.  I would love any suggestions on that front!

day 45

Happy Valentine's Day!  Here are a few shots from our dinner.  (Any suggestions on how to make an indoor, not great lighting shot, not look yellow?)

The boy and his beasts.

Great surprise today!  Richie's boss gave him two tickets to the hockey game, because he has been working so hard!  I have never been, and am really hoping that we can arrange it so it is me sitting beside him!  So proud of him!

day 44

I almost feel as though I should apologize for this one.  I was really at a loss today - photo-wise and well, otherwise.  This sign kind of sums up what I am feeling right now.

Edited to add:  I removed the original photo and edited to this.  I think I like it better. :)

day 43

Tonight was date night - yay!  We decided to try a burger joint we haven't been to before.  I don't often take pictures at night.  I thought I would try and take some of the neon signs at the restaurant.  However, I just couldn't bring myself to post pictures anouncing to the world that I ate a place called 'Fatburger'.  Yes, I know burgers aren't the healthiest - but the name kind of adds insult to injury, lol.  Anyways,  after dinner we ended up down at the beach.  This shot is of the pier.  I was playing around with my shutter speed and being generally silly with my camera while my man paid for parking.  I didn't get any other 'good' shots, as it was FREEZING!!!! and WINDY!!!! So, even if I tried to focus, the end result might have looked something like this too!
However on another note entirely, the sound of the ocean tonight was amazing.  In the dark, we could make out the waves, but it was the sound that took my breath away.

day 41

The Promise of Spring!  I was very excited to see my tulips coming up.  And then I took a picture and realized it has already been someone's lunch.

Love his baby blues.

day 40

What a beautiful day!  The boy and I had fun playing with the chalk - and we had to have the picnic blanket out and we had to have cups of apple juice (fond memories of last summer, I'm guessing).  This was followed by, basketball, soccer and catch.  Had to fit it all in.   When we came inside, he kept asking me - Mommy, was that relaxing? Mommy, was that peaceful?  I love that little man - he had planned all our activities and was so determined to have a 'nice' afternoon.  Well, he suceeded. :)

day 39

I love where I live.  This morning I opened my bedroom curtains and saw the beauty that was the mountains.  As I walked to the boy to school, there they were again. God's glorious creation was calling to me.  I needed to take a photo :)  I knew from past experience that I couldn't get a really good shot from my bedroom window or from the street we walk to school on...so after I dropped him off, I hurried home and hopped in the car, hoping to catch the light before the clouds came rolling in.  To river I went.  The clouds did come in a bit - but beautiful all the same.  How can I not be thankful when I can wake up on a beautiful morning and see this.  God is good.

day 38

I think that once a month, I will take a picture featuring the word "believe".  Just because.  January has been done, February is now done...and many more ideas are brewing in my head.

day 37

I love this quilt, so I thought it deserved a post on my blog. It was made by my Mother-in-Law as a wedding gift for Rich and I - more than ten years ago.  For me, it is a family treasure, something that will be hopefully passed down to future generations.  Thank you :)

day 35

Well, today I've had one grumpy boy.  I thought this would be all I got.

But he had a change of heart, and let me take this picture. (?)

On a funnier note, we had taken the 'scenic' route home from getting gas today..in case I saw the perfect photo op.  However, I had to go to the bathroom so badly, we flew by those perfect photo ops and headed for home!  Poor planning on my part I guess!

EDITED TO ADD:

I don't know if this is against the rules or not...but, oh well!  Spirits and attitudes improved later in the day and we had a great game of Chutes and Ladders.  Here are some of the outtakes...literally!

day 34

Yes, it is true.  I live on the Wet-coast.  I went out this morning with great expectations of what I might find.  What did I find, you might ask?  Rain.  Anyways, I pulled into a parking spot, to re-evaluate my situation and this is what I saw through my windshield.  Kind of neat.  So I took a picture and was pretty happy with how it turned out.   I am really enjoying learning how to shoot in manual - it is definately a process, but fun all the same.
